One of the main issues with the Map Connecting script is that the maps need to have the same tileset. This tutorial shows you how to make the illusion of have two different tile sets on the same map.
All you need is an event set below the player with the trigger “Player Touch”. You only need one event command, “Change Tileset”. In case you have never used this before, the command is located in the third tab of the Event Commands window under “Map”. Just select the tileset you are going to change to and you should be done. Note that you need to make two events. One so that when you go back to the previous map the tiles on that map display properly.
